The Bachelor of Architecture Degree programme prepares students for professional practice in the field of Architecture. Being an undergraduate programme, it has a broad scope, providing exposure to a variety of interests in this field and assisting students to discover their own directions for further development.
Given the complexities of present-day design projects, the architect’s role is that of a team Leader and co-ordinator of the input of specialists in various specific disciplines. He needs to possess a sound knowledge of all aspects of modern building technology to be able to draw up an integrated framework for activities of the other members of the team, to direct them and to assume overall responsibility for the collective effort. This is manifested in the courses in the Technological and professional streams.
Master of Architecture (Sustainable Architecture)
1. Course AimsThe School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada aims to play a key role in preparing future decision makers to meet the challenges of sustainable development by offering this specialized course. The aim is to develop skills, knowledge and understanding related to environmental sustainability, construction and building technology, adopting the principles and practices of sustainable building design, while responding to environmental challenges such as Climate change, environmental degradation etc.
The course offers a contextualized and deep understanding of sustainability in architecture. Study moves from the broad aspects of Man and Environment, energy and climate zones, through alternative materials and technologies for sustainability, urban sustainability issues, to the specifics of energy and environmental assessment. Waste management, Intelligent buildings, Eco cities, Passive & active solar strategies for energy conservation will be explored along the way. Throughout the course students are encouraged to challenge existing orthodoxies and to explore potential, cultural and technical responses to a changing world, whilst respecting the limits posed by our ecosystem.
