Research Initiatives:

The office of dean research facilitates and enhances the research and consultancy activities of the school, by encouraging the faculty to undertake research projects and Institutional consultancy. It is also instrumental in coordinating the academic management of research and Institutional Consultancy for the Institution. The office of the Dean-Research works as a liaison with the Director, Deans and Coordinators of various Institutional Consultancy Programmes and the Administrative Office of the School.

The Dean, Research advices the Director in matters related to Institutional Consultancy and Funded Sponsored research. In addition, the Dean Research also facilitates the faculty in procuring equipments necessary to conduct research or consultancy work and also advice in the recruitment of project staff.

Currently, a number of Institutional collaborations for research, Faculty exchange and students exchange have been established by the School through MoUs with leading Institutions such as University of Melbourne, University of Lille, IIT-Rourkee etc.

The School also has a number or Consultancy projects such as GIS based Master Plan for AMRUT towns- Bhimavaram and Elluru, Project for Andhra Pradesh Police Martyr’s Memorial and Detailed Project Report and Master Plan for Amaravathi Techno Park, Revision of Andhra Pradesh Town Planning Act 2018.

The School has established a Design Innovation Centre with an objective to develop innovative designs primarily to address the local issues which need low cost solutions and to nurture and advance the culture of design and innovation in the region to improve the quality of life.
The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development process. Through this project, the School is in the process to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India.
Two prestigious projects namely, Building Inclusive Urban Communities (BINUCom) and the Building Resilient Urban Communities (BReUCom) are funded under EU Erasmus + Program in the field of Capacity Building in Higher Education.

The BINUCom project is a collaboration between Indian Higher Education Institutions in India and Europe with a total of 7 partners, namely, CEPT (Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology), Ahmedabad, KAHE (Karpagam Academy of Higher Education), Coimbatore, KRVIA (Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies), Mumbai, SPAV (School of Planning and Architecture), Vijayawada, DUK (Danube University Krems), Austria, TWENTE (University of Twente), Netherlands, LUND (Lund University), Schweden

While the BReUCom is partnered with KRVIA along with ITC (Enschede), Donau Krems University, SPAB ((School of Planning and Architecture), Bhopal and SPAV (School of Planning and Architecture), Vijayawada

It is important to have a flourishing Research ecosystem to enable the School to establish itself as a leader in Architecture and Planning research in India. Hence, providing guidance for submitting proposals to funding agencies, formulating policies for the conduct of research and steps to maintain suitable standards by implementing the decisions of the Board of Governors or Senate are the key roles of the Dean- Research.


Research Projects

1. Building Resilient Urban Communities (BReUCom):

Building Resilient Urban Communities (BReUCom) is European Union funded project. SPA Vijayawada is one of the partnering institutions carrying out work on building resilient communities.


2. Design and Innovation Centre DIC:

Design Innovation Centre (DIC) is MHRD funded project. At DIC SPA Vijayawada innovative ideas on housing under the theme ‘shelter for all’ is being carried out.


3. Building Inclusive Urban Communities (BINUCom):

SPAV is in collaboration with University of Krems, Austria on an EU funded research project that aims to critically look at architecture and planning education in India terms of how much inclusive the syllabi.


4.Unnat Bharat Abhiyan(UBA)

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a project of capacity building towards transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help to design and build the architecture and planning of an Inclusive India. The project is funded by The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
